Auditory Cortex Depictions on VinylExperiental & Information Design / 2024

Growing up exclusively listening to vinyl, the experience of music became more than just sound. This project explores the neural mechanisms behind music processing, focusing on how cells in the auditory cortex respond to musical elements such as rhythm, pitch, and harmony. Printed on classical vinyl records, each page emphasizes the tactile, immersive quality of vinyl as a medium for music, mirroring how the brain's auditory cells receive and interpret sound.

The illustrations accompanying the exploration of these cells were drawn after referencing MRIs, research journals, and detailed medical illustrations, ensuring scientific accuracy. By examining the cellular dynamics of the auditory cortex, this work seeks to illuminate the complex processes that enable the brain to transform music into meaningful, emotional experiences
